This quote is commonly linked to the Nazi public book burnings of the early Thirties. However, it comes from an 1821 stage play about the burning of the Koran by christians during the  Spanish Inquisition. Ironic doesn't seem strong enough in relation to the recent behaviour of so-called Islamic State insurgents. Read on.
